Racism Still Exists

{The following was written by Johnathan Sublet, a Brazoria County Democrat.  Because it is too long for the blog, it is cut and you will need to read the comments to read it in its entirety.  The first four comments are the continuation of Mr. Sublet's thoughts.  This is well worth reading.  Please do not add your comments here, they will appear in the middle of Mr. Sublet's text.  Add them to the entry above - Alan Blakley}

Very often I hear how race is not an issue anymore and that we (African Americans) just need to let it go. In these conversations I express the thought that the issue of race is still very real and alive. Being a young African American male has afforded me to see things from quite a perspective. It saddens me that race is still an issue but it is.  I read articles like the one I have linked (http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-obama-race) and I just tear up. We live in a country where over 70% of the people say they are Christian but we still see things like this. How do they match up? Christianity is based on a God who loved those who did not deserve to be loved even to the point of sending His son to die for them. The fact that we call ourselves Christians means that we are supposed to be Christ like meaning imitating the character of Christ.  Meaning we too are supposed to be able to love those who may differ in opinion from us. Meaning we are supposed to love them as we love ourselves. Meaning that we are supposed to be for the betterment of our brothers regardless of race, creed, or color.
